National Healthcare Decisions Day – April 16, 2010 [04-15-10]

April 16, 2010 is National Healthcare Decisions Day.   The goal of the day is to encourage Americans to have thoughtful conversations about their health care goals and communicate their health care decisions by executing advance health care directives.  Across the United States, health care providers, professionals, chaplains, attorneys, and others will focus attention on the importance of appointing health care decision-makers and expressing end-of-life care desires.  (more…)

Complex Back Surgeries May Not Be The Best Choice [04-07-10]

Too many complex back surgeries are being done and people are suffering as a result, according to a study in the current issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. President Orders RAC Audits [04-01-10]

Today (March 10, 2010), to further intensify efforts to reclaim improper payments, my Administration is expanding the use of “Payment Recapture Audits,” which have proven to be effective mechanisms for detecting and recapturing payment errors.  Therefore, I hereby direct executive departments and agencies to expand their use of Payment Recapture Audits, to the extent permitted by law and where cost-effective. Health Care Reform – What’s Been Added So Far [03-31-10]

The President signed the PPACA into law on March 16th. On the 30th of March he signed a second bill, the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010. This bill makes significant changes in PPACA. Together, these two laws constitute a dramatic and sweeping change in the delivery and payment for health care insurance and services in this country.
