President Obama has considerably stepped up his public activities in support of health care reform over the past week.  Yesterday, he delivered a speech in which he continued his push for health care reform following last week’s release of his reform proposal and the Health Care Summit he hosted with Senate and House leadership. Congress Passes Temporary Extension of Therapy CAP Exceptions [03-03-10]

Late last evening, the Senate passed H.R. 4691, the “Temporary Extension Act of 2010” by a vote of 78-19. The House had passed the bill on February 25, 2010. The legislation will now be send to the President for signature into law. Passage of the bill in the Senate followed days of objections by Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) who argued that the $10.3 billion cost of the bill was not offset.


Identity Theft Becomming a Real Issue in Health Care [03-03-10]

These days, most people know the drill for dealing with a stolen credit card number — call the card company and have the account canceled.  But experts say a different type of identity theft is on the rise — one that could compromise both the victim’s credit and physical safety. Patients using someone else’s name, Social Security number or insurance card to get health care could risk their victim’s health if inaccurate information, such as blood type and medications, is recorded on the victim’s chart.


Rangel – Do as I Say, Not as I Do [2-26-10]

Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel of New York confirmed to reporters yesterday that the House Ethics Committee has admonished him for accepting a corporate-funded trip to the Caribbean, which is against House rules.   The ethics committee’s probe found that trips made by five members of the Black Congressional Caucus to the Caribbean were improperly paid for by corporations.


Update on Therapy Caps & Physician Fee Schedule [02-11-10]

On February 9, 2010, Senate Democrats released their jobs creation bill, the “Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act,” a package of provisions designed to stimulate the economy and help reduce unemployment. Of particular note to rehabilitation providers, however, is a provision in Title IV of the bill which would extend the physician fee schedule until September 30, 2010 and extend the exceptions process for the outpatient therapy caps until December 31, 2010.
