Danielle Wassam Competes in Ironman Florida [11-19-12]

A swim in the Gulf of Mexico sounds nice, but how about a 2.4 mile swim with 2800 other people at the same time, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, and last but not least a 26.2 mile run?  Many of us would shy away from an Ironman Triathlon, but The Marden Companies Danielle Wassam, PT from the Woodsfield Clinic, took the 140.6 mile challenge.

Danielle participated in the third-oldest North American race, Ironman Florida, on November 3, 2012.  Danielle explained that the goal is to complete the race in 17 hours.  “The ironman triathlon is typically made up of 80% males and 20% females,” states Danielle.  Knowing the challenge was going to be demanding, Danielle began training 15 to 20 hours per week in February 2012 and completed 2 half ironman competitions while training.  She competed in the Ironman Eagleman in Cambridge, Maryland in June of 2012 and completed the 70.3 mile race.  She also participated in the 70.3 mile Ironman Steelhead in Benton Harbor, Michigan in August of 2012 in preparation for Ironman Florida.

Although Ironman Florida was the most difficult endurance challenge Danielle has faced, she was able to successfully finish in the allotted time frame.  Danielle plans to continue to race half ironman races, and is already planning to do the half Ironman Cozumel in Mexico in September of 2013.

Congratulations Danielle!

Uncle Sam wants you to email your doctor. A federal law passed in 2009 says that physicians have to start offering their patients online communication, or Medicare will start docking how much it pays them in the future.  Some patients hope that having online access to their doctors will mean they can cut down on how often they have to go to the doctor’s office. But fresh research suggests that patients with online access actually schedule more office visits. (more…)

Todd Probst recently celebrated 15 years working for The Marden Companies and Grove Manor Nursing Home.  Co-workers, managers and residents surprised Todd with a luncheon in his honor on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.  Todd’s co-workers worked diligently to organize the surprise event and did so successfully.  Todd was presented with appreciation gifts from both the company and his co-workers.  Jeff Scott, Facility Manager, presented Todd with a special gift explaining that, “Todd not only is a dedicated PTA, he also is a competitive athlete.”  Russ Delaney and Adam West, of The Marden Companies, carried in a very large, seemingly heavy, trophy and presented it to Todd for leading his Grove Manor Volleyball Team to championship status at the Annual Marden Picnic that was held over the summer.

Todd thanked those present for the luncheon and the gifts, as well as the enjoyment of the past 15 years.  Todd stated, “As I see it, the grass isn’t greener  anywhere else.”

Congratulations Todd!  Fifteen years is quite an accomplishment!
