Punxsutawney Phil Predicts 6 More Weeks of Winter [02-02-10]

Does Phil feel lucky?  Unfortunately not.

Bad news today from the world’s most famous weatherman, Punxsutawney Phil, who emerged to see his shadow, forecasting another six weeks of winter.  German tradition holds that if a hibernating animal sees its shadow on Feb. 2  — winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow is seen, legend says spring will come early.  On Gobbler’s Knob (2 miles east of Punxsutawney) this morning,  the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club annually announced the sad news.  Punxsutawney is in the heart of Marden’s eastern operations, so no break for our staff until March, according to Phil.

You may remember Groundhog Day (the movie and one of our favorites).  The location for most of the shooting of the film was not actually Punxsutawney but rather Woodstock, Illinois.  Some of the film was also shot in Indiana, Pennsylvania with aerial shots also being filmed in Pittsburgh.
