October is National Physical Therapy Month [10-20-10]

During October’s National Physical Therapy Month, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and students of physical therapy around the country will be educating people of all ages and abilities about the importance of physical activity in preventing and combating obesity and its consequences.

Physical therapists are committed to helping in the fight against obesity and its consequences by helping you make the commitment to be physically active. No matter your age, physical ability, or past experiences with exercise, a physical therapist can help you and your family achieve better health through physical activity. In doing so, the America Physical Therapy Association (APTA) offers advice and “SMART MOVES” tips, which will help you and your family get moving toward better health.

For individuals who are overweight or obese, a physical therapist can design a program to promote weight loss and help decrease the risk of developing secondary health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and musculoskeletal pain.

To learn more about how a physical therapist can help you establish a life-long pattern of physical activity, contact Marden Rehab in Ohio or West Virginia.

It is never too late to get moving! During October and throughout the year I challenge you all to Move Forward by adding physical activity into your daily routines.
